Hello, my name is Aoife O'Carroll and I'm part of the PlacesToStay.com team. I'm here to tell you about the great places you can experience when you book with us.
Head to the southeastern corner of Ireland for some glorious golf. Leafy meadows and miles of spectacular coastline create the perfect setting for a memorable game, and the sunniest weather in Ireland makes golf in Wexford even more enjoyable.
Enjoy another first-rate golf course from Jeff Howes with a round at Bunclody, on the banks of the River Slaney. The layout brings you to the water’s edge twice, once on each nine. The elegant, round clubhouse and glass-fronted lift at the 17th green are impressive enough, but what really lives in memory is the exceptional finishing stretch through the woods and along the river. And the all-weather course means you can tee off at any time of year.
Nestled in the foothills of the Blackstairs mountains and overlooking historic Vinegar Hill, Enniscorthy Golf Club is an exceptional parkland course with many mature trees and a management system that prioritises the welfare of the ecosystem. This translates into a natural setting for this 6,000-metre par-72 course, which makes for some exciting golf. Designed by Eddie Hackett, with two recently redesigned greens (the charming 16th and tough 17th), the course is a test for the veteran golfer and a delight for the novice.
Rosslare Golf Club perches on a peninsula on the southeastern edge of Ireland, with the Irish Sea on one side and Wexford Harbour on the other. You start your round on a dogleg par 4, with standout holes including the par-5 7th, the notorious “Barber’s Pole” index 1 par-4 11th, the short par-4 13th, and the wicked par-4 16th - ultimately bringing you to the long, narrow 18th. As well as the 18-hole, 6,200-metre championship links golf course, there is a 12-hole layout called the Burrow Course.
The famously welcoming St. Helen’s Bay Golf Resort offers a challenging 18-hole course, sweeping views of the south Wexford coast, and superb on-site accommodation. With the final six holes close to the shore, the par-72, 6,140-metre course is known for two of the best finishing holes in Irish golf. The dramatic par-3 17th and short par-4 18th run directly along the beach, ensuring a dramatic finish to your game and spectacular views across to Tuskar Rock lighthouse.
Designed by Peter McEvoy to USPGA standards, Seafield is a 6,500-metre, par-71, 18-hole course outside Ballymoney, combining woodland, heath, and seaside, with the front 9 characterised by mature parkland, and the back 9 more open, with long fairways, crosswinds, and unforgiving bunkers. The 178-metre 11th hole is spectacular, played off a tee box just yards from a cliff edge, and the green of the 192-metre 16th has the Irish Sea has a backdrop.
