Hi, my name is Caragh. It's my responsibility to ensure that all our customers have a great rental experience on PlacesToStay.com. My favourite place to stay in Ireland is Dingle!
Watched over by the legendary Croagh Patrick, Westport is an idyllic Heritage Town at the mouth of Clew Bay. A stay in Westport can be as active or as relaxed as you like: Follow the footsteps of St. Patrick to the top of “the Reek” or take a leisurely stroll through the pretty streets.
The biggest tourist attraction in the area, the 18th-century Westport House and its adjoining Pirate Adventure Park offer something for everyone. Westport House showcases 500 years of history with 30 rooms you can visit and three comprehensive exhibitions. The adjacent Pirate Adventure Park promises hours of fun for younger visitors.
The Great Western Greenway is Ireland’s longest non-vehicular cycling and walking trail. It follows the route of the old Westport / Achill railway line, which closed in 1937, opening up 42km of safe, traffic-free paths for you to head out for a spin or a stroll.
The Westport Festival of Music & Food is an annual weekend event with something for all ages that takes place in June among 400 acres of gorgeous grounds at Westport House. This is a colourful and laid-back affair, incorporating top-quality music, attractive on-site camping, great food, comedy, beer tents, and wine bars.
Judged Ireland’s best place to live in the Irish Times, Westport has a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere and is surrounded by stunning scenery. Spend your day exploring the untamed beauty of the northwest and return to cosmopolitan Westport, Ireland’s best town to live in, and home to enticing shops and restaurants.
Set at the foot of Croagh Patrick, Westport Golf Club is the finest parkland golf course in the west and northwest of Ireland. This superb course, located among 260 acres of rolling parkland and measuring over 7,000 yards from the championship stakes, is an acclaimed championship venue, having hosted the Irish Amateur Close Championship three times, as well as the Smurfit Irish PGA Championship.
With the iconic cone of Croagh Patrick as a backdrop, Bertra beach is one of Ireland’s best beaches for walking, birding, kitesurfing, and windsurfiing. It is located 12 km west of Westport on the Louisburgh Road (R335).
The idyllic town of Westport lies 8 km from the iconic cone of Croagh Patrick, a pilgrimage destination for centuries. On Reek Sunday, in July, hundreds follow in the steps of St. Patrick and make the difficult journey to the summit. Whatever your views on St. Patrick, the views of Clew Bay from the top make the ascent worthwhile.
Ireland’s sixth national park, Ballycroy National Park covers 11,000 hectares of pristine Atlantic blanket bog and mountainous territory, dominated by the Nephin Beg mountain range. The park can be reached via the N59 in the direction of Achill, turning right just outside Mulranny village.
With an island for every day of the year, Clew Bay is a tapestry of colours stretching out in front of Westport. Clare Island, at the mouth of the bay, has a population of 130, which swells considerably in summer. Visitors are drawn by the historical association with the Pirate Queen, Granuaile, and other historical and archaeological sites.
Westport provides a comfortable base for exceptional deep-sea fishing, as well as game and coarse angling. You can book boats, guides, and equipment locally, and licenses are needed to fish for trout or salmon. Loughs Corrib, Mask, Carra, and Conn are within easy drive of Westport, offering the greatest wild brown trout fisheries in the world.
