Frankfurt's Cultural Quarter
This is the very heart of Frankfurt – the city's medieval core. Most visitors to Frankfurt prefer to stay in this area as it is home to the city's top sights like the charming town square – Romerberg, the town hall – Zum Romer, the Gothe Haus and Gothemuseum – dedicated to Johann Goethe, the Alte Oper (Opera House) and St. Bartholomaus Cathedral. Other attractions here include Frankfurt Zoo and the Museum of Modern Art.
Just south of the river, is where you'll find the Museumsufer area. It has lots of museums to explore; the German Film Museum, Museum of Applied Arts, the German Architecture Museum, the German Leather Museum, the Money Museum and lots more.
The Cultural Quarter has pubs, cafes, eateries and shop plus lots of charming squares with outside seating. There's lots of Frankfurt hotels located here which make a very central base for your stay.
Financial District
Frankfurt has a significant financial, business and banking district. This financial district is known as the Bankenviertel. It's located west of the city centre's cultural quarter and you'll notice it by its huge skyscrapers. Many of the major German Banks have their headquarters here and it's also the location of one of the most important banks in the world – the European Central Bank.
This area is very well served by public transport and has lots of Frankfurt hotels aimed at the business traveller.
Frankfurt Trade Fair Area
The Frankfurt Trade Fair (Messe Frankfurt) is the third largest trade fair venue in the world. It can be found in Bockenheim in the central west part of the city centre.
It holds some of the world's biggest exhibitions and conventions including the world's largest Book Fair and Automobile Fair.
There are loads of Frankfurt hotels in this area, which are perfect if you're coming for a trade fair but make sure to book them well in advance.
Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt International Airport is among the busiest in the world and its located just 12km from the city centre. Frankfurt is connected to all the major destinations in the world. The airport has 2 terminals, which are connected by shuttle. The S-Bahn train can take you to the city centre.There's lots of Frankfurt airport hotels close to this airport which are ideal if you on a flying visit to the city,
The other airport Frankfurt Hann is used by no-frills airlines and is situated approx 2 hours west of Frankfurt city centre. You can also book hotels close to this airport.
If you're coming to Frankfurt then plan your trip well in advance. Avoid weekends with major trade fairs as prices of hotels rooms can skyrocket. You could also try booking Frankfurt hotels in the greater Frankfurt area like the nearby cities of Darmstadt, Mainz and Wiesbaden which are all within a 1 hour S-Bahn ride from downtown Frankfurt.
