Two of the biggest resort destinations in the Alicante region are Benidorm and the region's capital Alicante.

The city of Alicante has loads of hotels. At first, it might be a bit mind boggling trying to decide which one to book, but before you start searching, the best thing to do is to set yourself a budget and also choose a part of the city in which you would like to base yourself.

There are three main hotel districts in Alicante city – the Harbour, El Barrio and Playa de San Juan.

The harbour area is home to some of the most prestigious hotels in the city but of course, this prime location may come a price. The exclusive harbour area is a great base for you stay as it's close to the beach, the Explanada, the port and El Barrio.

If you prefer to be located within the city itself, then choose a hotel in the 'El Barrio' district. This is the charming historic centre of the city, which is brimming with restaurants, shops, cafés and beautiful narrow streets which are full of historical wonders for you to admire. Here you'll be within steps of the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall), San Nicholas Cathedral, Plaza Abad, Penalva and Plaza Quijano. One of the city's top attractions the Castillo de Santa Barbara overlooks the El Barrio district. This part of the city is always vibrant with lots of people dining al fresco, soaking up the atmosphere or enjoying some of the best nightlife to be found in the city centre.

Another popular part of Alicante for you to consider is close to Playa de San Juan. This is regarded to be the most beautiful beach in the Alicante region. It boasts 7km of fine white sands and is very spacious, so even at its busiest there's still plenty room for sunbathing. The beach can be found a few kilometres north of the city centre and is lined with hotels, bars and restaurants. Hotels located along Playa de San Juan are perfect if you intend on spending a lot of your holiday on the beach.

You can also choose to stay at a hotel close to Alicante Airport. The airport can be found about 11km south of the city centre. If being close to the airport is important to you, then maybe you would like to choose a hotel between the airport and the city.

Alicante and Benidorm are the two of the busiest sun holiday destinations in the Alicante region, but you can also book hotels in other quieter destinations like; Alcoy, Denia, Elche, Altea and Calpe.

When you do a search for hotels in Alicante, bear in mind that you can choose by star rating 1 star-5 star or by hotel theme. Choosing a hotel by star rating is important for your budget. If you're on a tight budget and need cheap hotels in Alicante, then choose a lower star rating. Generally, the higher the star rating – the higher the price you pay.
