Checklist for your City Break

Planning a trip away can be a hectic affair, especially if you're doing so at the drop of a hat! Here we present our lastminute checklist for you to glance over just before you hop on that flight…

These may seem like obvious things to bring, but it's quite easy to forget something when you're running out the door because the impatient taxi driver is waking the neighbours while beeping the horn! So for peace of mind, take this list and double check what you've packed to make sure you don't forget something, as we want your holiday to run as smoothly and hassle free as possible!

Most important things to bring

Flight Tickets

Make sure you have your flight tickets on you or this will be the shortest trip you’ve ever had! Many airlines don’t issue hard copy tickets any more so you should always bring your print out of your booking reference. Many of the budget airlines don’t even check the booking reference all you need is this next item…

Passport

Don't leave home without this! It's without doubt, the single most important thing to bring on any trip abroad.  More importantly - make sure your passport is up-to-date and that it will still be in date when you are making your return journey. Some countries will insist that your passport is valid for up to 6 months after your expected departure date.

Cash

Make sure you have some foreign currency on you when you arrive at your destination. You'll find it handy for things like a taxi to your hotel.

Credit Cards

This can be a great way of having money with you all the time, but double check that your credit card is accepted in your destination city. VISA and MasterCard are widely recognised all over the world so if you have one of these then great, if you don’t, then you might encounter problems so be prepared.

Hotel Booking Details

Always take your Places To Stay hotel confirmation details with you. Of course, it's not a bad idea to call the hotel the night before you arrive to confirm booking and time of arrival.

Luggage Items

Guidebook

Be sure to get a good guidebook and perhaps draw up an itinerary of must-see attractions as there is nothing worse than being on a flight home when you realise you've missed out on some of the best attractions! If you're heading to destinations off the beaten track then it's advisable to take a handy phrase book with you.

Another important thing to understand about any destination is that the customs may be significantly different there so it's no harm reading up on them before you go.

Maps

A map with tourist attractions is important, a big one for planning in your hotel room and a small one to carry with you (a good guide book might have one at the back of it), as there is nothing that screams "Tourist" more than a person with a huge map.

Another important map to have is one of the public transport network so you can find the nearest station and quickly make your way between attractions if you don’t feel up to walking or if its raining.

Camera

To capture those unforgettable sights and attractions - don't forget your camera. (also pack charger and batteries).

Roaming Phone

Great for use in emergencies but be sure to have it fully charged and stocked with credit if you are running a prepay phone. Roaming can be very expensive and you may also have to pay to receive calls.

Travel Adaptors

For plugging in your phone chargers, your battery rechargers and...well anything really!

Some other things to consider

  • Check with your airline before you pack your luggage and find out their luggage weight restrictions and items that are not allowed in your suitcases and hand luggage.
  • If you have booked your car hire, don't forget to bring the required documentation with you and of course, your drivers license!
  • It's also a good idea to make a photocopy of all travel documents and passports.

Hope this guide helps you in preparing for your city break. Of course, do not hesitate to leave a comment if there's anything else you'd like to add to this list!

These days the only two things you really need are your passport and bank cards. Everything else you can probably live without. A guidebook can easily be substituted with online travel websites while a camera can be replaced with a disposable camera from the airport
