Money-saving city breaks: Prague and Budapest top the poll!

If you’re looking for a value for money city break in Europe it goes without saying that you want to visit somewhere that offers good value for money… and this is where we come in!

A great article has just popped up on the web with a handy little breakdown of how long your sterling, dollar or euro will last in various city break destinations.

Prague hotels: Old Town Square, Prague

Check out the Travelmole site and see the article for yourself… basically destinations like Prague and Budapest have come up top of the pile in terms of bang for your buck.

According to a study from the company Travelcare, just over £200 (€300) will get you a double room for two in a 4 star hotel, a taxi from the airport, a one day city transport pass, sightseeing bus tour, entrance to a major museum/art gallery, a coffee, pint of Guinness, McDonald’s Big Mac and a three course meal!

Not bad at all really, especially when you consider that both Prague and Budapest are amongst the most beautiful and lively cities in Europe. The exact same itinerary would cost you around £580 (€877) in Paris and £545 (€805) in New York, which really puts it into perspective.

Surprisingly enough, London fared pretty well, coming in at £267 (€395) for the same package – so it’s not the rip-off central that some would lead you to believe.

Ultimately though, if you fancy a genuinely good value weekend away then the old Czech and Hungarian capitals are just the ticket… beautiful baroque architecture, fairytale castles and cobbled streets, rich, absorbing culture… oh and did we mention both cities have a cracking nightlife?!
